Written on 29th November 2017

Christmas and New Year is a special time for celebration and there are a few tips to keep you and your property safe during this time.

Out and About

  • Always tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back.
  • Spread your valuables around your person (for example, keep your phone in a bag, your house keys in a pocket and your money in a jacket).Image
  • If you use a wheelchair, keep your things beside you rather than at the back of your wheelchair.
  • Try not to have your valuables on show - talking on your mobile, carrying an iPod or showing your friends your new jewellery, for example, all show thieves you are worth robbing.
  • Carry your handbag close to your body and don't put it down where it can be stolen easily.
  • Do not leave items on display in your car.
  • Take extra care when at cash machines or when paying with a credit/debit card remembering to keep your pin number hidden.
  • Take extra care of doorstep sellers, street markets, car boot sales or other situations to avoid buying fake goods.
