Putting fat, food scraps and oil down the kitchen sink can cause blockages and damage to pipes with repairs costing hundreds of pounds each year. Blockages can cause unpleasant smells and sometimes mean you and other Tenants can't use the sink until it's been unblocked.
To prevent blockages in your kitchen sink follow the checklist below when disposing of food, fats, oil and grease.
Do wipe and scrape plates, pans and utensils before washing and put the waste into a bin
Do collect used cooking fat, oil and grease in an appropriate container and throw in the rubbish bin
Do use strainers in sink plug holes (and empty contents into the bin). You can buy a sink strainer like this one from Wilkinson’s
