Cold weather can be seriously bad for your health and make you more likely to catch a winter illness that could become very serious. Especially for people who suffer from breathlessness, have a lung disease or another long-term condition such as diabetes, heart or kidney disease.
Here are some great tips to help you stay well this winter:
Get Your Flu Jab
Flu vaccinations are offered free of charge if you have a long-term health condition. This vaccination will protect you against catching flu and possibly developing serious complications.
Keep Yourself Warm
This might help prevent colds, flu or more serious health conditions. Heat your home to at least 18C and wrap up warm inside and out.
If you or someone you know is feeling unwell, speak to a pharmacist before it gets serious.
Ask your Pharmacist what medicines you should have in your medicine cabinet to relieve symptoms of common winter illnesses such as a cough or cold. Make sure you are stocked up with enough food supplies for a few days, and get any prescriptions you may need.
The cold temperature can affect those with long term health conditions. Ask your vulnerable friends, family or neighbours if they need any practical help.
